The items, works of art, pictures and archives included in the museum collections record life in Finland with its regional, national and international characteristics. Finnish museums have agreed amongst themselves which aspects of life they record.
There are some 100,000 objects, more than 70,000 posters, some 9,000 works of art and approximately half a million images in the collections of the Lahti Museums. Acquisitions to the collections are made in a planned and careful manner. The collections are permanent, and they are managed and stored accordingly. Professional staff familiar with the museum’s collection work ensure that the collections are accumulated, preserved and made available as necessary in accordance with agreed and documented principles.
The collections are also an important starting point for the exhibition and publishing activities of the museum.
